For what it’s worth, growing up in the LCMS, I always understood that baptism removes the guilt of original sin. I can’t say if this was explicitly taught, but at least casually, whenever the topic of infant baptism came up, one of the reasons given as to why infants should be baptized was to remove the guilt of original sin.
