In the Gospel of Mark, the first words we hear from Jesus are about the Kingdom of God: “Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.’” This fact alone makes the Kingdom of God an essential truth for the Christian faith and the Christian life. It was at the core of our Savior’s message to the world but what is the Kingdom? Especially today, in light of the influence of movements such as Dispensationalism, neo-Kuyperianism, and Christian Reconstructionism (and theonomy), there is much confusion about the nature of the Kingdom of God and thus this book is all the more necessary. Regular readers will remember that, in 2017 Steve Baugh published an excellent introduction to the biblical doctrine of the Kingdom of God, The Majesty on High. We discussed the book on Office Hours about the time the book came out. Now his daughter, Leah Baugh, has produced a companion guide for this volume. With the Companion Guide, Steve’s introduction to the biblical theology of the Kingdom of God will be even more useful. This book is useful for Bible Study groups, Sunday School and other Christian education classes, and for Christian schools and colleges. The Amazon blurb says,
The companion breaks down difficult concepts, gives definitions for key terms, and provides extra complementary Bible passages for study and discussion. The companion also has summaries of the main points to give study leaders and teachers an outline to follow. It is not meant to be a stand-alone study but will be most effective when read together with The Majesty on High. The goal is to give students the opportunity to dig deeply into Scripture and to see the beauty of the kingdom of God.
The Companion Guide for The Majesty on High is $7.95 in paperback. The Majesty on High is also available on Kindle.
