Dr.Clark, I’m largely in agreement. Neither the gospel, or the institutional church is “political,” in terms of referring to civil governance (or the coercive administration of civil justice). However, when understood properly, we don’t need to shy away from saying that the gospel and/or the Christian Faith can and should influence our view and practice of politics. (We should understand general revelation through the lenses of all Scripture teaches). One of the ways it should do that is enabling our recognition that the old covenant is ended and (as we call it) the “normal operations of common grace” resume in the new covenant era. And this involves the fact that the Gen 9 lex talionis authorizes a common grace civil governance without “sacralizing” it, outside the old covenant.
