A New Home for Peace URC in Vancouver, WA

Peace United Reformed Church began as a church plant in February 2020. Through lockdowns, fear, and a pandemic, God continued to grow this work in Vancouver, WA.

We began meeting just on Sunday evenings for worship. A local church graciously allowed us the use of their facilities on Sunday evenings. We continued this relationship and held evening services only for about eighteen months. With continued growth and a desire to worship twice on the Lord’s Day, God provided an opportunity to use a conference room at a local business. We are very thankful for this space. Besides allowing us to meet for morning and evening worship, it also allowed us to welcome more visitors and engage in age-appropriate catechism instruction. Because this was a space intended for business it had its drawbacks: it required weekly setup and teardown, it was not ideal for Reformed worship, and it offered limited visibility to our community.

In spite of the limited visibility, our neighbors kept finding us. In the last year, the conference room has been packed on Sunday mornings, and we found ourselves unable to grow without a larger space. To be sure, this location was cozy and friendly, but we could not grow further in it.

With the above realities in view, the Council established a Building Search Committee and got serious about looking for a more permanent church home. But suitable options proved grim. Schools were not open to renting. Corporate space is in short supply and too expensive.

But then God provided an incredible opportunity. In September of 2025 we learned that in the civic heart of Vancouver, a faithful church was about to close its doors and disband. Their building is only fifty years old and in sound condition. It sits prominently on a major street: Mill Plain Boulevard. It is halfway between the two major freeways, I-205 and I-5, which are also the two major highways that link most of the surrounding towns. This property is also about to become part of a new multi-use multi-family development called The Heights District.

A local Christian man made us a generous offer. As a real estate developer, he was planning to buy the church building with two additional parcels of land attached. He plans to develop two of those parcels, but he is adamant the church building be sold to another congregation, remain a church, and continue to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the community it has long served.

With the advice of the members, the Council decided to enter into a short-term agreement to rent for six months and then purchase this building. The Council is convinced that this property will help us fulfill the commission of our Lord. Our faithful Savior Jesus Christ is worthy of being preached from the civic heart of Vancouver, Washington.

On November 23, 2025, we held our first worship service at our new home. We have now been in this space for over a month and have already seen a steady stream of visitors during Lord’s Day worship and at our Christmas Eve service.

With our current agreement, we have until May 15, 2026, to secure funding to close on the property. Will you join us in prayer for God’s provision? Will you also continue to pray that the Lord would call His sheep from the peoples of Vancouver?
