Teaching school is a funny thing. In many jobs people are prepared by the company to stay, to contribute to the company but in school teachers pour their lives and energy preparing students to leave. Each spring, teachers stay and students leave and the process starts over each autumn. Except sometimes teachers leave and this is one of those times. Dennis Johnson has taught at Westminster Seminary California since 1982, joining the faculty only two years after the seminary opened its doors. When Dennis began, the school met in a nondescript office building just off California state route 78, just to the west of Escondido. Two years later, the seminary moved to its present campus at 1725 Bear Valley Parkway. We were about 75 students. During those 35 years the seminary has graduated more than 1,000 students, who have gone on to serve the Lord in various roles across the globe and Dennis taught most of them. Not only has Dennis helped to prepared students across the globe, he has traveled and taught globally. He has also been deeply involved in the life of his local congregation at New Life Presbyterian Church, both as an OPC and later as a PCA congregation, in Escondido.
