Escondido Fire (May 15, 2014) UPDATED

The Escondido Fire Dept. is battling a two-alarm structure fire at Calvary Assembly Church, in central Escondido. It’s a little suspicious that this fire should start now. It’s warm and winds have died down. It’s still very dry (6% humidity) but low humidity is common and structure fires aren’t.

UPDATE 9:50PM Pacific

Escondido PD have detained an adult and a juvenile in connection with a brush fire at Kit Carson Park.

There are unconfirmed reports that neighbors saw a youth running from the church.

UPDATE 10:21PM Pacific

EPD is scheduled to hold a press conference at 10:30 regarding the arrests.

UPDATE 10:32PM Pacific

The Associate Pastor Soto tells San Diego6 he saw a a teen run through the property and leave quickly on a skateboard. The church was engulfed 10 minutes later.

UPDATE 10:44PM

The Escondido Police Chief, Craig Carter, says they have arrested a 19-year old and a 17-year old for setting two fires in Escondido. Authorities are not connecting the two to other fires. They are investigating their involvement with an attempt to set a fire at Kit Carson Park.
