  1. “The Mortal Storm” (1940) is a fine film with a strong message. And actor Frank Morgan (1890-1949), who is remembered today only for “The Wizard of Oz” of the year before, gives the performance of his career in this film, as a long-standing and much-loved university professor who sees both his personal life and professional career destroyed by the rise of the Nazis.
