Female Predators In Public Schools

The institutions entrusted with the formation of young men are failing in their most basic duty of protection. This week, a 28-year-old female health teacher in Colorado was arrested, accused of a year-long sexual relationship with a 14-year-old male student. The allegations detail a predatory grooming process targeting a boy who was already struggling with his mental health. When the student attempted to end what he described as a “dating” relationship, the teacher allegedly began stalking him, revealing a complete collapse of professional boundaries and the failure of the systems meant to ensure his safety.

A 2011 dissertation, Female Teachers as Sexual Predators, confronts this institutional blind spot. The study—a qualitative analysis of ten 7th-12th grade Florida teachers arrested for sexual misconduct—excavates the professional personas these women cultivated before their arrests.
