The following is an update by John Whitt on the Gig Harbor, WA church planting work under the supervision of the Lynden United Reformed Church, in Lynden, WA.
§
After seven months of twice monthly Bible studies covering the basics of Reformed theology, Gig Harbor URC is thankful that God has directed the elders of our mother church, Lynden URC, to begin calling weekly worship services on Sunday, March 10.
We will continue to meet at Lighthouse Christian School in “The Cove” meeting room on the lower level of the building. The address is 3008 36th St NW, Gig Harbor, WA 98335. We will meet each Sunday in the evenings at 5pm. Lynden URC has begun the process to find a full time minister. Until then about half of the services will be led by the ministers from Lynden URC, and the remainder by other Presbyterian and Reformed Ministers from Western Washington.
When we come together, we intend to make Christ and Him crucified for us sinners as the focus of each worship service. Expect a simple worship service consisting of prayer, confession of sin, assurance of forgiveness, singing of Psalms and hymns, monthly Communion, and the reading and teaching of the Word of God where we are called to “come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood.” (Hebrews 12:22-24)
There will be a place set aside for young toddlers to crawl about and a quieter location for babies that may need to cry. We whole-heartedly welcome even the youngest children to remain with us in worship, as patterned by Jesus when he brought the young children to his side, rather than push them away. We know this means that there will be times of interruption and noise; but that is how families operate and we expect no difference in this family of God.
