Few books are as needed today as Mortimer Adler’s How To Read A Book. It might be an encouragement, however, before you read, or while you’re between chapters, to watch Adler and Charles Van Doren talk about different ways to read and why we should. E.g., in the clip linked here they discuss why we read should books that stretch us intellectually. Britannica and the foundation begun by Adler (1902–2001) are offering DVDs of the interviews. They might be helpful for homeschoolers, for classical schools, and others. Adler is a great start toward warding off the coming dark ages.
