1. Subscribe to the HB RSS feed. Just click on the RSS icon and use a feed reader (I use the Apple Mail app).
2. If you use iTunes go to the file menu and click here and voila! It’s a podcast.

I think, Scott, if either one of us had realized that the problem was on my end–not on yours–we might have at least considered temporarily suspending anti-virus software or a firewall! I appreciate your efforts to help and your kindness and Vaclav’s in not making me feel like an idiot! 😉
Problem is that feed isn’t a true Podcast RSS feed like iTunes demands… it is just an RSS feed and sometimes has a Heidelcast in it,… i.e. it is not a true podcast. Heidelcast needs its own XML/RSS to resolve
True but it works! Are you volunteering to help me set it up properly?
It works for some podcast catchers. Well, I have done it before on WordPress. This site looks like it runs WordPress,… if that is so then it is easy to setup…. and yes, I would be happy to help. 🙂
But I think you already have a resource that can help. Who setup the Office Hours podcast? Cause that does work as a true XML/RSS Podcast feed.
Jason,
Office Hours is done through the school. We have an IT person, an editor, and others who help get the podcast out.
I have a tech wizard who helps with the HB (bless him!). The HC, however, is a one-man operation. I record, edit, and upload the HC. On the HB 1.0 I had set it up via Feedburner and iTunes and it was a pain in the neck. I’ll look into it and see if it’s still a pain in the neck. It’s been a few years since I did it last.
Vaclav, I temporarily terminated Avast! and was successful in subscribing to Heidelcast. Thank you so much for helping me understand that I simply needed to clear the way on my end of the process! So simple that I feel pretty stupid! 😉
Trish
Hi Vaclav and Trish,
Thanks Vaclav for helping on this. I’m grateful.
Trish, no worries. Computers are increasingly bewildering. I didn’t even think to ask the questions that Vaclav asked.
Oh, btw, there’s no proxy server involved.
Patricia,
The host server for Heidelblog Podcast does support byte-range requests. Somehow your machine’s request is not received properly by the server.
1. What iTunes version do you use?
2. What operating system and version do you use?
3. Do you have a proxy server between your computer and the internet?
4. Do you use any filters for the internet access?
Perhaps we can figure out what is going on.
What a nice offer, Vaclav! Thank you! I have the most current version of iTunes. I’m running Windows 7 (64-bit) on a Dell Inspiron desktop. I use Avast! antivirus, Malwarebytes, and Windows firewall. I hadn’t thought about temporarily terminating one or all three, but perhaps I should.
Works for me on iTunes.
Thanks David!
I have attempted to subscribe to Heidelcast on iTunes. However, when I paste in the address you provide, the message returned states that there is an error because the host server doesn’t support byte-range requests. Can you enable this feature?
Thanks,
Trish
Hi Patricia,
I updated the address. Try http://heidelblog.net/feed and let us know how that works.
Unfortunately, your update to the Heidelcast server did not solve the iTunes problem. I’m still getting the message that the host server doesn’t support byte-range requests.
Trish
Hi Trish,
Not sure what to do. Are you using iTunes? Which version? I checked a genius friend and the message doesn’t make sense.
Have you cleared your cache? Did you re-boot? Just random ideas that you’ve probably already tried,
Trish,
Did you use http://heidelblog.net/feed
Yes, I did use http://heidelblog.net/feed
Crums. I’m stuck. Any help out there in HB land?
I wonder if there’s something I’m supposed to do on my end? However, I wouldn’t have the faintest idea how to enable a byte-range request. Hmmmm?
According to one thread I saw on an apple discussion list the “byte range” message is random. Try another feed. E.g., http://wscal.edu/resource-center/morning-devotions-feed
1. iTunes file menue
2. Subscribe to podcast
3. Paste in the address
