Disorder Is Not The Answer For The PCA

The issue is actually not about sex; it is about polity and ordination. Yet the bearers of non-standard titles seem to usually be women, not men. Women cannot be (and are not being) ordained in the PCA, though there seems to be a consistent desire to incorporate women more or less formally into something that looks like leadership or office.³ Again, the offices of the PCA are open only to men. In some contexts, this may be unpopular or difficult to explain. Withholding ordination from men (as some have admitted doing), making one office subject to local option (as one overture would do), or blurring the lines between ordained offices and larger, informal “leadership” pools is disorderly and cannot be the answer.
