This past Lord’s Day morning we began the new week by hearing a sermon, an exposition of God’s Word and a proclamation of the law and the gospel. In our congregation we heard a sermon from the first part of Exodus 32. Scripture says:
When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, “Rise, make for us gods who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” So Aaron said to them, “Take off the rings of gold that are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.” So all the people took off the rings of gold that were in their ears and brought them to Aaron. And he received the gold from their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made a golden calf. And they said, “These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!” When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made proclamation and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to Yahweh.” And they rose up early the next day and offered burnt offerings and brought peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.

The insights and warnings that you highlight when it comes to shepherding the Lord’s people, though applicable to any believer and any number of issues, should be learned and embraced especially by those who have been ordained as elders and pastors. Galatians 1:10 comes to mind:
For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.
Very encouraging podcast. As a pastor of a small congregation, the conversation was encouraging to stay the course of trusting that the Lord will bless the means of grace that He has ordained for His church. May the Lord’s people never grow weary of the good news of the Gospel!
